professional organization will help you stay abreast of developments
within your field of interest. These organizations provide you with a
forum for idea exchange between colleagues as well as providing you the
opportunity for professional research. Perhaps the most important
benefit you will receive by becoming a member of a professional
organization is the multitude of resources available for you to utilize
in conjunction with your classroom curriculum, including new books
related to your content area.

to contain a more extensive list of resources and/or books

Your School Library Media Specialist (SLMS) can help provide a
list of professional organizational URL's and journals
County Educational Departments often subscribe to professional
journals and your SLMS can obtain any requested journals not already
located within your school media center
As subscribers to various listserv's your SLMS is able to collect
announcements from publishing companies in regards to new books that
are available to supplement curriculum
Your SLMS can allocate funds to purchase books and other
resources recommended through professional organizations
As the head of the school media committee, the SLMS can obtain
and provide reviews of desired resources
