Autobiography
My name is Beth Lovin and I was born and raised in Lawrenceville, Georgia. I attended schools in Gwinnett County and graduated from Central Gwinnett High School. Growing up I was always doing one of two things: dancing or reading. My mother was a media specialist so books were always a part of my life as far back as I can remember. I went through cycles of 'favorites' but standouts inlcuded Babysitters Club, Sleepover Friends, Sweet Valley Twins, The Anne of Green Gables series and my all-time favorite Nancy Drew. Now that I am older I still love to read but definitely find it harder to make time for it than when I was younger. I particularly enjoy biographies and mysteries.

After graduating high school I attended Berry College in Rome (Georgia not Italy!). Berry is absolutely one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. At Berry I was fairly indecisive regarding a major as most college students are but eventually chose Psychology. I intended to pursue a career as a school counselor but eventually changed my mind. At the end of my senior year at Berry I began wishing I had pursued a semester of study abroad so doing things in my own time and way I postponed my graduation by a year and landed in Florence Italy for a semester. This was by far one the best decisions I have ever made and if I had to do it all over again the only thing I think I would have done differently would be to study abroad for a full year rather than only a semester. I completely fell in love with Italy and although I have not made it back yet, I fully intend on revisiting my favorite country one day in the near future. Since I already had the credits I needed to graduate I was able to take any class I wanted while in Italy which proved to be extremely fun. I enjoyed Wine Tasting, Italian Family, Beginning Italian Language, Italian Architecture and The History of the Catholic Church Through the Lives of the Popes. It was definitely a sad day when I boarded the plane back to Atlanta.

After returning to the states I began my first full-time 'adult' job at the home office of a life and disability insurance carrier in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I never envisioned working in the insurance industry but I found it interesting and I was good at it so I stuck with that for several years before I found myself thinking of UGA and a career change to an educational setting. Practically my entire family worked in the educational field so it seemed natural for me to follow suit.  I originally continued with my first track of School Counseling through the University of Tennesee at Chattanooga but Georgia has always been home to me and it was definitely calling my name. I also decided that counseling might be somewhat depressing and more like social work. Teaching in a classroom was always a consideration but I found myself drawn to the media center as the perfect setting to be able to work with students and teachers alike. So once I was accepted at the University of Georgia I quickly moved back to Georgia and got a job working for my uncle in the publishing office of his magazine.

I began the Masters of Education in Instructional Technology (School Library Media) program in the Fall of 2004. I have definitely been one of the 'lost sheep' moving through the program differently than the thundering heard and was finally able to see the light at the end of the LONG tunnel last semester.
I am really looking forward to graduation and feel a huge sense of accomplishment. I continued to experience job changes during my time in the program with the most recent change coming in the fall of 2005. The magazine I worked for closed its doors and I found myself back in the insurance industry but this time with an independent agent. I work in their commercial department managing the accounts of three of the commercial agents. As part of the job requirements I became a licensed property and casualty insurance agent in 2005.  I am sure this will not be the last of the job changes I experience in life but for now I am happy where I am and will probably pursue a job as a media specialist only when I become married and start a family of my own.

My goals for my future include becoming a wife and mother and to continue to grow personally and professionally in whatever endeavor I pursue.
