AASL Standard 3
Collaboration and Leadership

School library media candidates provide leadership and establish connections with the greater library and educational community to create school library media programs that focus on students learning and achievement; ecourage the personal and professional growth of teachers and other educators, and model the efficient and effective use of informaiton and ideas.

Project: Internship

The school library media internship is an opportunity to actively participate in the role of a media specialist while under the guidance and supervision of an active professional media specialist. The internship provides hands-on training and allows for opportunities to collaborate with teachers, assist students and working with the media center collection and its patrons.

My internship setting is in a non-traditional setting so part of me feels if I were to start over I would seek out a more traditional setting in which to complete my internship but at the same time I have had such a great experience and have been exposed to so many diverse people and settings that I would encourage more interns to seek non-traditional settings for their internships.
Justification: Connection with the library community; Educational Leader

Project: PDEP

The program development and evaluation plan is an instrument utilized to help the media specialist focus on the needs of the media center. An effective plan covers the management policies, procedures and principles of the media center as well as builds upon ALA and AASL standards.

My PDEP was created in collaboration with three other classmates and was a based upon a mixture of real and theoretical school settings. I was very pleased with how the end product turned out but would probably work with fewer group members if I were to do the assignment again so that I got a more detailed involvement with all of the sections of the plan.
Justification: Instructional Partner
